Agartala Dec 07: A faction of 10,323 sacked teachers led by Pradip Banik are on a hunger strike since 49 days at Orient Chowmani area of the capital city demanding reinstatement of their service.

Banik and his team on Wednesday served the final ultimatum and declared to stage road blockade from tomorrow as the chief minister and the state government failed to decide on the fate of the teachers within seven days of earlier time limit.

Speaking to the reporters on Wednesday, Pradip Banik said, “We met chief minister Dr Manik Saha on November 22 with a team of legal experts. But the meeting could not find any conclusion and ended that day”.

“Later, when the teachers and their family members blocked road on December 01, it was assured by the Sadar SDPO to let us know what the state government has decided within 7 days. But no one contacted us on this. Therefore, the teachers have decided to stage road blockade from tomorrow and we won’t be responsible for any traffic issues or problem”, he added. The teachers are on Hunger strike since October 20, 2022, many of them have fallen ill on several occasions, but no solution came out yet.“Our jobs were never gone but the Education Minister wrongly explained the High Court verdict which has resulted into our job less situation”, said the agitating 10,323 teachers. The sacked teachers further lambasted the state government over its inhumanitarian approach and false promises of reinstatement on several occasions.
