Agartala, 11th February 2026: As many as 14 candidates are set to contest the upcoming Tripura Bar Council elections for 11 available posts, while three women candidates have already secured their seats unopposed under the reservation quota.
Addressing the media at the Tripura Bar Council office today, Returning Officer Justice S.C. Das announced that polling will be held on February 14. “Voting will commence at 7 am and continue till 4 pm. Necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure smooth conduct of the election,” he said.
Justice Das informed that a total of seven polling stations will be set up at the Agartala High Court premises, while eight additional polling stations will function across various district and subdivision headquarters. “Polling stations outside the High Court have been established in locations where more than 20 eligible voters are expected to cast their votes,” he added.
Explaining the voting procedure, Justice Das stated, “The election will follow a preferential voting system. Each voter must cast a minimum of five preferential votes on the ballot paper. Failure to comply with the guidelines may result in the ballot being declared invalid.”
Referring to the Supreme Court’s directive mandating 30 percent reservation for women advocates, he said, “Only three women candidates filed nominations. With the approval of the High Power Election Committee, they have been declared elected unopposed against the reserved seats.”
The counting of votes is scheduled to take place on February 21.
