Agartala, 18th July 2025: The West Tripura District Police has formed a 15-member Special Task Force (STF) to identify and deport illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar.
Given Tripura’s 856-km-long international border with Bangladesh, the state is particularly vulnerable to cross-border infiltration. The new STF aims to strengthen surveillance and enforcement in this sensitive region. As per an official order issued by West Tripura Superintendent of Police Dr. Kiran Kumar, the task force comprises Officers-in-Charge of all 15 police stations in the district. The unit will be led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DIB), Debasish Saha.

The STF has been assigned the responsibility of detecting illegal Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas who may be residing in or have been detained within the district. Once identified, the individuals’ biometric data—including fingerprints and facial photographs—along with demographic information, will be uploaded to the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Foreigners Identification Portal.
“After the biometric and demographic data is uploaded, the individuals will be handed over to the appropriate Border Security Force (BSF) units for deportation or repatriation,” the order stated.
To ensure systematic monitoring, the Deputy SP (DIB) has been instructed to maintain and compile detailed reports on a weekly, fortnightly, and monthly basis.
