Agartala, 5th January 2025:  As many as 17 persons sustained injuries after a mini truck carrying a family, who had come to enjoy a picnic at Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary of Tripura’s Sepahijala District fell into a deep gorge.

Speaking to the media, an unidentified man, who had also come with his family for the picnic, said, “Like everyone else, we were enjoying the picnic. A family of around 17 people had come to enjoy the outing in a goods-laden truck carrying their family members. When they were leaving the picnic spot, the driver reversed the vehicle instead of moving forward, causing it to fall into a deep gorge. We immediately rushed to the spot, and everyone came together to rescue them. The driver, however, managed to escape the scene.”

Another witness, who runs a shop nearby, mentioned that the family had come from Melaghar to Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary for the picnic. While returning home, their vehicle fell into a deep gorge.

Soon after the incident, fire and emergency services rushed to the spot, rescued the injured, and took them to Bishalgarh District Hospital.
