Agartala, 24th February 2025:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Bhagalpur, Bihar facilitated the disbursement of the 19th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Krishan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) Scheme by transferring funds directly to the bank accounts of farmers across the country with the press of a button. This event was attended virtually by Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, MLA Antara Deb Sarkar, Secretary of the Agriculture Department Apurba Roy and other officials from the Agricultural Research Center in Arundhati Nagar, Agartala on Monday.

Speaking to reporters here, Minister Chowdhury highlighted the scheme’s significant impact, stating, “Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arranged for over fifty crore rupees to be sent to the accounts of the farmers of Tripura. This is an unprecedented move in the history of the world.” He further elaborated that 2,87,000 farmers in the state have received the benefits of the PM-Kisan Scheme, emphasizing the broad reach of the initiative.

Minister Chowdhury underscored the scheme’s success nationwide, noting, “More than 11 crore farmers across the country have benefited from this government scheme, with the government spending over 3.5 lakh crore rupees. This has significantly strengthened the economic base of the poor.” He added that Tripura farmers alone have received over 780 crore rupees through the scheme, marking a substantial achievement for the state.

Reflecting on India’s agriculture-dependent economy, Minister Chowdhury remarked, “The Prime Minister has rightly identified farmers as the breadwinners of our country.”

Addressing journalists’ inquiries, he pointed out that past government projects often excluded Tripura, but under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, no project has been implemented without including the state. He mentioned the Prime Minister’s designation of the North Eastern region as “Ashta Lakshi” and his assertion that India’s development is impossible without the region’s progress. The new budget, therefore, allocates 47% more funds than the previous budget to ensure comprehensive development.

Minister Chowdhury criticized the opposition for allegedly depriving farmers of information, stating, “The opposition is trying to prove that they are depriving the farmers of the state.” He praised the current government for implementing various new projects for farmers, which previously did not exist, and for eliminating the issue of middlemen taking funds meant for farmers. “During their time, the farmers were deprived. Now, farmers are happy and benefiting,” the minister claimed.

It is worth noting that in the 19th installment, more than 9,70,000 farmers across the country received an additional 22,000 crore rupees, with Tripura’s share being 50 crores 86 lakhs 30 thousand rupees.
