Agartala, 10th August 2025: In a major crackdown on illegal cultivation of narcotics, security forces destroyed over 2.87 lakh ganja plants in Sonamura subdivision of Sepahijala district today.
Officer-in-Charge of Sonamura Police Station, Tapas Das, informed that acting on secret information, a joint team conducted raids from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm in Bathadola GP and Bijoy Nagar ADC Village areas, including forest lands. During the operation, 11 ganja nurseries were located, and approximately 2.75 lakh plants were uprooted and destroyed on the spot.
In a separate location, the team destroyed around 12,000 newly planted ganja plants spread over nearly 8 acres.
The total number of plants destroyed stands at 2.87 lakh, with an estimated market value of Rs 2.5 lakh.The operation was carried out jointly by Sonamura Police Station, 81 Battalion BSF (Batadola BOP, Matinagar BOP, Kulubari BOP), Boxanagar Forest Division, Jatrapur Forest Division, 9th Battalion TSR, 11th Battalion TSR, and other sister agencies.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to eradicating illegal narcotics cultivation in the region.
