Agartala, 12th November 2025 : The Khowai District Hospital organized a free cataract surgery camp this afternoon offering critical eye care services to underserved patients. Held at the hospital’s outpatient department, the camp drew a large number of men, women and elderly individuals seeking eye examinations.
Following thorough screenings, 20 patients diagnosed with cataracts were selected for free surgeries under a government-sponsored initiative. The program was spearheaded by Dr. Sardendu Reang, Medical Superintendent of Khowai District Hospital, with ophthalmologist Dr. Anis Chandra Som overseeing the clinical procedures.
Of the 20 beneficiaries, 11 are male and 9 are female. In addition to those who attended the camp, hospital staff reached out to other cataract patients in the district to ensure they too could benefit from the program.
After medical evaluations, all selected patients were transported to Agartala on Wednesday afternoon at government expense. They were admitted to IGM Hospital, where their surgeries are scheduled for Thursday. Post-operative care and return travel will also be covered by the state.
“This initiative ensures that patients regain their vision without bearing any financial burden,” said Dr. Som. “We’re hopeful this camp will bring lasting relief to many.”
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the government’s support, noting that restored vision would significantly improve their quality of life.
