Agartala, 13th February 2026: With the upcoming ADC Village elections drawing near, political equations in tribal-dominated areas are witnessing new shifts. Amid signs of internal discord within the Tipra Motha camp, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organized a joining ceremony this afternoon at Jagadbandhu Para, a Bru refugee–dominated locality under the Ganganagar Autonomous District Council.
In the event, 245 voters from 109 families formally accepted the BJP flag, marking their entry into the party.
The program was attended by Tripura’s Tribal Welfare Minister Bikas Debbarma, former MP Rebati Tripura, along with several mandal and district-level leaders. Party sources claimed that longstanding grievances over socio-economic development and basic services had created resentment among sections of the Bru community, leading to this mass defection.
Prior to the joining ceremony, a rally and procession were held across Jagadbandhu Para and the nearby market area, with Minister Debbarma himself participating. The formal program commenced after the procession reached the venue.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Debbarma said, “Politics should not be about misleading people with emotional appeals. Repeated demands for political gain do not serve the real interests of tribal communities.” He alleged that the ADC administration had failed to take expected steps for tribal development over the past five years.
He further assured that the BJP government is prioritizing education, healthcare, and employment for tribal communities. Several new projects will be implemented to improve the living standards of the Bru community and other tribal groups, he added.
