Agartala, 21st July 2024:   Amid the recent protest-turned-violence in Bangladesh, a total of 314 students have entered Tripura through two Integrated Check Posts (ICPs) today, according to BSF officials.

By 3 PM today, students from both Nepal and India crossed into Tripura via ICP Agartala and ICP Srimantapur, located in Sepahijala District. From ICP Agartala, 152 students—comprising 86 Indians and 66 Nepalis—entered, while ICP Srimantapur saw the arrival of 162 Indian students.

“Today, 314 students, including those from Indian states and Nepal, have entered Tripura from Bangladesh, where they were pursuing their studies. More students are expected to arrive tomorrow,” a BSF spokesperson stated.

The BSF noted that around 8,000 Indian students are currently studying in Bangladesh, primarily enrolled in medical colleges in Comilla, Brahmanbaria, and Dhaka. Many students opted to use the Tripura ICPs due to their proximity to these medical institutions.

Debasish Nandi, Manager of the Land Port Authority of India (LPI), reported that since the outbreak of violence in Bangladesh, there has been a steady influx of students entering Tripura via the ICPs.

“Yesterday, approximately 360 students from India and Nepal arrived. Today, we have received more students, in coordination with the BSF. We are facilitating their immigration process and providing transportation and accommodation. Additionally, we are assisting students with flight and train tickets to their hometowns,” Nandi informed this publication.
