Agartala, 5th July 2026: The Khowai Police seized approximately 40 kilograms of cannabis and arrested one alleged smuggler during an anti-narcotics operation in the Kargil Tilla area under Khowai Police Station on Sunday afternoon.
According to Officer-in-Charge Krishna Dhan Sarkar of Khowai Police Station, the operation was carried out around 2:00 PM following a tip-off. Police intercepted a high-speed electric three-wheeler (Tomtom) bearing registration number TR-04C-2898 on the road near Hatkata, adjacent to Kargil Tilla, while it was allegedly transporting the contraband.
Police recovered around 40 kg of cannabis, estimated to have a black-market value of approximately ₹6 lakh. One suspected trafficker was arrested at the scene, while another occupant of the vehicle managed to escape. A search has been launched to apprehend the absconding suspect.
The seized cannabis and the vehicle have been taken to Khowai Police Station, and a case has been registered. Further investigation is underway.
The incident has raised concerns among local residents, with many questioning whether drug trafficking networks are increasingly avoiding main roads and using smaller interior routes to evade police surveillance. Authorities have stated that efforts are ongoing to identify and dismantle the entire trafficking network.
