Agartala: August 28. Drinking Water and Sanitation Minister Sushanta Chowdhury today claimed that by the end of December around 80 to 85 percent of households in the state will receive drinking water connection.
The minister said this after listening to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat program which was telecast live today at Community Hall of North Majlishpur Gram Panchayat in Jirania Block. Chowdhury who is also the Information and Cultural Affairs Minister, along with gram panchayat members and local residents was present in this program at the community hall. In today’s Monki Baat event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, water conservation, child malnutrition Jal Jeevan Mission to provide drinking water to households, and self-reliance through the widespread use of the internet.
After the programme Chowdhury told reporters that the Jal Jeevan Mission has taken the target of providing drinking water connection to 7 lakh 42 thousand homes in the state. “The state government has so far delivered clean drinking water through pipe lines to 53 percent of the state i.e. about 4 lakh households. By December 2022, 80 to 85 percent of households in the state will be provided with drinking water”, he said.He said that the central government has allocated a sufficient amount of money for Jal Jeevan Mission.He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Water Resources Minister for this. The minister further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Man Ki Baat program today elaborated on the role of clean drinking water in eradicating malnutrition among children.
