Agartala, 27th October 2024:   A total of 30,602 students from the state have already received post-matric scholarships, with Rs 56 crore and 46 lakh deposited into their bank accounts.

Addressing a press conference this afternoon, Janajati Kalyan Department Secretary Brijesh Pandey stated that Rs 56 crore and 46 lakh have been deposited in their bank accounts.

“In the financial year 2023-24, 35,665 Janajati students applied for the post-matric scholarship. Already, 85.80 percent of students have received the scholarship money,” he said.

Brijesh clarified that reports suggesting delays in distributing post-matric scholarships to Janajati students were inaccurate. Providing further details, he stated that students from families with an annual income below Rs 2.5 lakh are eligible for the scholarship. “The process is conducted through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). In this scheme, the central government bears 90 percent, while the state government covers 10 percent of the cost. The application deadline for the Post Matric Scholarship for FY 2023-24 was extended six times to allow all eligible candidates to apply. A total of 35,665 students from across the state applied for scholarships through the NSP. In the first phase, scholarship funds were distributed to 21,272 students in June this year, totaling Rs 13 crore and 37 lakh,” he added.

In the second phase, starting from September 20, an additional 9,330 students received Rs 43 crore and 3 lakh in their bank accounts.

The secretary noted that all seven states, including Tripura, have distributed post-matric scholarships to students belonging to the tribal community.

He also mentioned that 17 students were unable to link their Aadhaar during the NSP application process, leading to the rejection of their applications. Additionally, 2,456 students have not received their scholarship funds due to incomplete Aadhaar linkage with their bank accounts. “They have been sent SMS reminders to complete Aadhaar linkage. The Janajati Kalyan Department has coordinated with NIC Delhi to provide an additional 15 days for Aadhaar linkage,” he informed.

He further stated that re-examinations are underway for the application forms of 2,212 students studying outside the state, while income certificate verification is ongoing for 712 students studying within the state.
