Abhoynagar residents bear the brunt of delayed project

Agartala, 28th November 2025:   The ongoing Smart City project has left residents grappling with daily hardships as road digging, drainage repairs and electrical works continue across the city. Large pits have been dug at multiple locations, with heaps of soil left scattered on roads, causing severe traffic congestion.

In several areas, water pipelines and gas lines have been damaged during excavation, adding to the woes of locals. The situation is particularly dire in Abhoynagar, where work along the GB-Motor Stand via Abhoynagar Road has disrupted daily life. Residents complain that at almost every lane junction, pipelines are being cut and left unattended.

Progress on the project remains painfully slow and locals alleged that after a day of activity, work often halts for several days. Even when water pipelines are damaged, responsibility for repairs is shifted from one department to another, leaving residents without solutions.

Citizens have demanded the immediate completion of the Smart City works in Abhoynagar, but uncertainty looms as no timeline has been provided for project completion. While the monsoon season has passed, dust from dug-up roads continues to choke the city, leaving the public exasperated.
