Agartala, 23rd June 2025: Tensions flared at Kailashahar’s Ramakrishna Mahavidyalaya today as members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest condemning an alleged attack by Students’ Federation of India (SFI) activists during the college’s admission process. The demonstration began at 11 am in front of the college’s main gate, drew dozens of students and ABVP leaders including department coordinator Anup Kanti Majumdar and Unakoti district coordinator Ayush Deb.
The protest follows a violent altercation on June 21 last during admissions for the science stream. ABVP leaders claimed that SFI members forcibly entered the college council room and vandalized property, targeting both the council and ABVP’s help desk. “This was not a spontaneous act—it was a premeditated assault aimed at disrupting the democratic process on campus,” alleged Majumdar, calling the incident “a naked manifestation of hooliganism in the guise of student politics.”
Despite informing the college administration, Majumdar criticized authorities for their continued silence. “It is unfortunate that even by Monday, the administration has not taken any visible steps,” he said. He further alleged that SFI’s actions stem from ideological insecurity: “They know they’ve lost the battle of ideas, so they’ve turned to intimidation and violence.”
The situation escalated further when ABVP claimed that Chandipur branch secretary Ankan Pal received death threats on social media. “It was said that ‘Ankan will be slaughtered in the same way as cows are slaughtered,’” Majumdar stated, demanding immediate legal action against those responsible.
In response to the unrest, a heavy deployment of police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel was observed on campus. ABVP submitted a memorandum to the college authorities, urging the administration to restore law and order and ensure “exemplary punishment” for the perpetrators.
The protestors also denounced what they described as a 25-year-long “culture of terror” allegedly perpetuated by SFI on campus. “This movement will not stop until the culprits are punished,” warned ABVP leaders, calling on civil society to stand against political violence in educational institutions.
The college principal, Dr. Pinaki Pal has reportedly remained absent since the incident further fueling concerns over administrative inaction. Meanwhile, SFI has countered the allegations, accusing ABVP members of collecting unauthorized fees during admissions and staging the vandalism to deflect attention.
