Agartala, 18th October 2025: For the past three days, regular classes at Ramkrishna Mahavidyalaya (Kailashahar College) have come to a near halt, leaving students frustrated and classrooms deserted. The disruption stems from a severe shortage of faculty, as nearly all professors, including the principal, have been deputed to Tripura University for undergraduate exam paper evaluation duties.
College sources informed that the move was mandated by the Department of Higher Education. As a result, only one faculty member remains on campus, and students say it is impossible for her to manage the entire academic load alone.
Compounding the crisis, guest lecturers whose contracts expired in September have not been renewed, leading to a complete suspension of their teaching responsibilities. Students report that the academic environment has effectively collapsed.
Today, although the college opened at 9 am, only one class Education was held until 12:30 pm. Classrooms for Economics, Political Science, Sanskrit and Philosophy remained locked.
Students, many of whom travel long distances daily, expressed anger over the waste of time and money due to the lack of classes. The absence of the principal has also disrupted administrative operations.
What has further fueled student resentment is the silence of campus political groups. Despite the ongoing disruption, neither the ruling party’s student wing nor opposition student organizations have issued any statements or taken action, prompting accusations of passive complicity.
The sole remaining faculty member declined to comment on the situation. Students fear the disruption may continue for another three to four days.
Calling the Higher Education Department’s decision “Tughlaqian,” students have demanded an immediate restoration of normal academic activities at the college.
