Administration Removes Bamboo Barricade Blocking Public Road in South Ghilatali

Date:

Agartala,  12th  October 2026 :   Taking a firm stance against repeated obstruction of a public road, the administration on Monday removed an illegal bamboo barricade from the Chankhala area of South Ghilatali with the assistance of police and paramilitary forces.

According to reports, associates of TRPC Chairperson Patal Kanya Jamatia were accused of blocking the government road by erecting a bamboo fence, preventing local residents from using the route. Despite the administration removing the barricade on two previous occasions, it was allegedly erected for a third time, triggering strong resentment among residents.

Upon receiving information, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Teliamura reached the spot on Monday along with a large contingent of police and paramilitary personnel. The team removed the bamboo barricade and restored public access to the road.

Speaking to reporters at the site, the SDM said the action had been taken under Section 166(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

He further informed that a government surveyor would conduct a demarcation of the disputed land on Tuesday at 10 am to resolve confusion over the land boundaries.

The SDM made it clear that people who have legally received land pattas would be entitled to their respective land. At the same time, he emphasised that the administration has a responsibility to ensure that government roads remain open for public movement.

The administration is also keeping a close watch on the situation to prevent any untoward incident arising from the land dispute.

Appealing to residents to maintain peace and law and order, the SDM urged them not to pay heed to rumours. The proposed land demarcation on Tuesday is expected to provide greater clarity regarding the dispute over the land and the public road.
