After HM Shah meeting, Tripura CM says alliance talks for VC polls progressing

Date:

Agartala, 12th August 2026: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr Manik Saha on Wednesday said discussions over a possible alliance for the upcoming Village Council elections are continuing and expressed optimism that the negotiations would end on a positive note.

Saha was speaking a day after his meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The Chief Minister said his Delhi visit was aimed at apprising the central leadership of various issues related to the state. According to Saha, the discussions covered organisational and political matters as well as issues concerning the functioning of the state government.

“There are many issues that are essential for running the state and these have to be brought to the notice of the central leadership. That is why I went to Delhi yesterday and met the Union Home Minister,” Saha said.

He described his interaction with Shah as cordial and said the discussions took place in a positive atmosphere.“Our leadership has always held discussions in a positive manner,” Saha said.

On the proposed alliance for the Village Council polls, the Chief Minister said negotiations were still in progress.“Talks on the alliance for the VC elections are underway and I am hopeful that the outcome will be positive,” he said.

The talks assume significance as the BJP and its tribal ally, Tipra Motha Party, are exploring the possibility of reaching an electoral understanding ahead of the Village Council elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

The polls are expected to be an important political contest in Tripura’s tribal areas, with both parties working to strengthen their organisational and electoral presence ahead of the elections.
