Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital workers protest over unpaid salaries

Agartala, 24th December 2024:  Salaried workers at Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital today joined a protest demanding the payment of arrears and a salary hike. The protest has been instigated by Akhil Safai Mazdoor Sangh culminated in a mass sit-in-demonstration at the GB Hospital premises here.

Speaking to reporters, a worker said that 509 salaried employees have been working at the two hospitals under outsourcing contractors earning Rs 9,000 per month. They allege that their salaries have not been paid for three months, prompting the protest.

“We have been working at Agartala Medical College and GB Hospital for a long time, but the contractors are making excuses when it comes to salary payment. We are not being paid on a specific date every month, which is causing various problems for us,” the worker stated.

The protest reflects the workers’ frustration over delayed payments and inadequate salaries. They have voiced their concerns and demand immediate action to address the issue. The contractors and hospital management are yet to respond to the workers’ demands.
