Agartala, 31st December 2025: Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation, Dipak Majumdar, today inspected the ongoing work under the Riverfront Development Project, part of the Smart City initiative aimed at revitalizing the Howra river basin. During the visit, he toured various sections of the project and held discussions with officials regarding the progress of the work.
The Mayor stated that the project includes the construction of robust embankments and dredging to control flooding, along with river cleaning, development of green spaces, walking paths, cycling lanes, and playgrounds. In addition, initiatives for waste management, water purification, and transforming the riverbank area into an attractive space are underway to enhance recreational and tourism opportunities.
He further mentioned that the development work will continue from Battala to Dashmighat. The area will feature lighting, food stalls, parks, and other civic amenities.
The Mayor also warned that unauthorized shops occupying government land will be removed and necessary measures will be taken to reclaim public spaces.
The inspection was attended by D.K. Chakma, Commissioner of Agartala Municipal Corporation, corporator Abhijit Mallik, and other officials from the municipal corporation and the Smart City project team.
