Agartala Police intensify anti-drug crackdown; 23 held in special operation

Date:

Agartala, 7th August 2026:   In a determined effort to curb the growing drug menace, Tripura Police carried out a large-scale anti-drug operation across Agartala and its surrounding areas on Thursday, leading to the arrest of 23 persons for their alleged involvement in drug consumption and peddling.

The coordinated drive was launched under the directions of senior police officials as part of the state’s ongoing campaign to dismantle drug trafficking networks and maintain law and order.

Officer-in-Charge of East Agartala Police Station, Krishnadhan Sarkar, said the operation was jointly conducted by teams from East Agartala Police Station, Maharaj Ganj Out Post and College Tilla Out Post. Acting on specific inputs, police carried out raids at multiple locations across the city, detaining several suspected drug users and peddlers.

“This special drive reflects our firm commitment to eliminating the drug menace from Agartala. We will continue to take stringent legal action against drug peddlers and all those involved in narcotics-related offences,” Sarkar said.

He informed that the campaign would be further intensified in the coming days, with police focusing on identifying and dismantling organised drug trafficking networks operating in and around the capital city.

Police also appealed to the public to actively support the anti-drug campaign by providing credible information about illegal drug activities. Officials said community participation is essential to curb the spread of narcotics and protect the younger generation from substance abuse.

The latest operation is part of Tripura Police’s sustained efforts to strengthen enforcement against drug-related crimes and create a safer, drug-free environment across the state.
