Agartala, 17th August 2025: The Agartala Sports Journalist Club organized the prestigious Floric Award 2025 at the Agartala Press Club auditorium today. Coinciding with India’s Independence Month, the event felicitated 34 athletes and featured appearances by legendary footballers, government officials, and sports dignitaries.
The ceremony was illuminated by the presence of international footballer Sule Musa and four former Indian football icons Rahim Nabi, Alvito de Cunha, Soumik Dey and Dipankar Dey representing East Bengal and Mohun Bagan. They were joined by 10 top athletes from Tripura and 12 additional honorees showcasing the state’s growing prowess in diverse sports disciplines.
Ten outstanding athletes were honored with the title of Floric of the Year for their remarkable achievements across various disciplines. Among them, Aritra Roy was recognized for his mountaineering feat as an Everest summiter, while Tania Das excelled in judo and Devantar Bhadra in yoga. Mouchaiti Debnath and Sridam Pal were celebrated for their contributions to cricket, and Aaradhya Das and Arshia Das for their prowess in chess. Shreya Deb and Siam Puiya were acknowledged for their performances in football, and Sriparna Debnath was felicitated for her excellence in gymnastics.
Additionally, female footballer Reshmi Orang and cricketer Asmita Das received special recognition. Asmita captivated the audience with a soulful rendition of a classic Lata Mangeshkar song upon receiving her award.
Twelve female yoga athletes who brought distinction to Tripura through their performances at the Under-17 and Under-19 National School Yoga Competitions were honored during the ceremony. The awardees included Dhriti Debnath, Parineeta Roy, Nandita Bhowmik, Payel Das, Usmita Debnath, Anindita Karmakar, Sushmita Roy, Pratibha Singh, Maman Das, and Srabani Debnath. Each recipient was presented with souvenirs, Uttariya, cash prizes and special gifts generously sponsored by Floric Hotel, Kolkata.
The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting led by a group of guests and veteran footballers. Among the key attendees were Youth Affairs and Sports minister Tinku Roy, Agartala Press Club President Pranab Sarkar, East Bengal Club Secretary Rupak Saha, Aajkar Fariyad Managing Director Sanit Debroy, Tripura Olympic Association Secretary Sujit Roy, Deputy Director of Youth Affairs and Sports Biplab Datta and Kolkata Sports Journalist Club President Suven Raha.
Agartala Sports Journalist Club Secretary Santosh Gope delivered the welcome address followed by speeches from Sanit Debroy, Minister Tinku Roy and other dignitaries.
The event concluded with a mega lucky coupon draw, where five winners received prizes from M/s Lakshmi Bhandar. The awards were distributed by a team including Apu Roy, Surya Kanta Pal, Annapurna Das, Club President Shantanu Banik, Secretary Santosh Gope and others. The program was seamlessly conducted by Meenakshi Ghosh.
In his closing remarks, President Santanu Banik expressed heartfelt gratitude to all contributors, including the Agartala Press Club, East Bengal and Mohun Bagan football veterans, Kolkata Sports Journalist Club and the event sponsor.
