Agartala, 27th April 2024:   A fire broke out in the garbage heap of Debendranagar dumping station in the suburb of Agartala around 4 am on Friday. Despite 12 hours of relentless efforts, firefighters were unable to bring the fire under control.

Upon noticing the fire, local residents promptly alerted the fire brigade. Responding swiftly, firefighters arrived at the scene to find four to five kanis of the dumping station ablaze. Six fire engines worked tirelessly, managing to control the fire with continuous water supply until 10 am.

However, the respite was short-lived. Around one in the afternoon, it was reported that the fire had reignited. A fire engine from the NCC fire station rushed to the scene but was unsuccessful in controlling the fire despite their best efforts. Attempts to use water from a local pond also proved futile.

The uncontrollable blaze prompted workers from a nearby fertilizer plant to construct fire lines around their facility, which is surrounded by piles of garbage, to prevent the fire from spreading inside the organization. Strangely, upon the arrival of journalists at the scene, the factory workers fled for reasons yet unknown.

NCC fire station officer, Pradip Kumar Das, confirmed that the fertilizer factory suffered no damage in this incident. Firefighters initially speculated that the fire may have been caused by carelessness, such as someone discarding a lit bidi or cigarette in the garbage heap. However, the exact cause of the fire remains uncertain unless investigated by the police.

The fire, still smoldering within the garbage pile, continues to burn the waste used for producing fertilizer. The time frame for extinguishing this fire remains unknown. This incident has sparked speculation among many, who believe there may be a significant secret behind it. The fertilizer factory, which received a large tender from Agartala Municipal Corportaion to convert abandoned garbage into fertilizer, is at the center of these speculations. Given the absence of residential buildings in the vicinity, the probability of such an event being organized is very low, leading many to label it as a mysterious fire.
