Agartala, February 20: The state of Tripura is gearing up to celebrate International Mother Language Day on February 21 with due dignity and respect. A colorful procession and a state-level program will be organized in Agartala as part of the celebration, in a joint initiative of the Education Department of the Government of Tripura and the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh.
Director NC Sharma announced this in a press conference at the Secretariat on Tuesday. He said that the procession will start from the front of Agartala Town Hall at 8 am and will include students of various schools and colleges, teachers, officials and staff of the education department, officials and staff of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission, and different speaking people of the state.
The procession will pass through Uttargate, Colonel Choumuhani, Vidurakarta Choumuhani, and Lakshmi Narayan Bari Road, and will end at the Town Hall. There, the state-level central program to celebrate International Mother Language Day will be held at 9 am. State Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha will inaugurate the program, while Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh Assistant High Commission Arif Mohammad will be the guest of honor. Director of Secondary Education and Higher Education Department NC Sharma and Director of Information and Culture Department Bimbisar Bhattacharya will also grace the occasion as special guests.
International Mother Language Day is observed every year on February 21 to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. The day also commemorates the sacrifices of the language martyrs of Bangladesh, who laid down their lives for the recognition of Bangla as a state language in 1952.
