Agartala, 5th December 2023 : Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has assured Tripura’s Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury that Agartala will soon have improved air connectivity with six major cities in India. In a letter dated November 30, Scindia said that three airlines – Indigo, Air India and Akasa – will operate 202 flights per week from Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport, Agartala to Bengaluru, Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati, Imphal and Shillong.
Scindia’s letter was in response to Chowdhury’s letter on November 21, in which he had requested the union minister to look into the flight operations on the Jorhat-Agartala-Jorhat and Hyderabad-Agartala-Hyderabad sectors. Chowdhury had said that these routes were important for the socio-economic development of Tripura and the North-East region.
Scindia informed Chowdhury that the Jorhat-Agartala-Jorhat sector has been awarded to Spicejet under the UDAN 5.0 scheme, which aims to provide regional connectivity and affordable air travel. He said that he has been informed that the airline would start the operations in the near future. He also said that he has taken up the matter of Hyderabad-Agartala-Hyderabad sector with Indigo, and hoped for a favourable response to start the operations at an early date.
