Agartala, 21st June 2025:  In the wake of the recent Air India crash in Ahmedabad that claimed multiple lives and sparked national alarm, the Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in Tripura has reaffirmed the robustness of its safety measures. The crash, which occurred near a densely populated area, has prompted the central government to tighten scrutiny of aviation security protocols across the country, particularly around aircraft take-off and landing zones.

In response, local authorities at MBB Airport have reiterated their compliance with all mandated safety regulations, especially those related to bird hazard management and high-rise construction near flight paths.

“The airport is following every necessary protocol to prevent disruptions in flight operations. We ensure regular waste management within a 10-kilometer radius to minimize bird activity. Even the local market committees are cooperating to prevent open dumping,” said Meena, Chairman of the Airfield Environment Management Committee.

Meena emphasized that approval from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is mandatory for any high-rise construction in the vicinity. “These permissions are applied for online, and approvals are granted only after thorough inspection. This process is strictly followed here in Agartala,” he added.

During a recent meeting of the Airfield Environment Management Committee—attended by senior officials including the AAI Director—multiple aspects of airport safety were reviewed. The committee, which meets bi-monthly, discussed waste management, construction clearances, and operational safety at length.

“All stakeholders were satisfied with the status of our airport’s security arrangements. If any issue arises, it is promptly addressed by the administration. I can say with confidence that MBB Airport remains fully secure,” Meena noted.

The central government has mandated stricter enforcement of safety norms nationwide, aiming to prevent future tragedies like the Ahmedabad crash. Agartala’s proactive stance appears to set a reassuring example for other regional airports navigating similar challenges.
