Agartala, 25th December 2024: An official of the Agriculture Department has been accused of embezzling government funds in the Bijoynagar Panchayat area of the Sabroom subdivision in the South district. The incident has raised concerns about corruption within the department, despite the central and state governments’ efforts to double farmers’ income through transparent measures.
The accused Manohar Das has been serving as the Superintendent of the Sabroom Sub-Divisional Agriculture Department, specifically the Satchand Agriculture Sub-division, for many years during the Left regime. He is alleged to have embezzled money from the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. Locals claim that since 2019, Das has been exploiting the scheme for personal gain.
The vigilance of the current Dakshin Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadipati has brought these allegations to light, exposing the corrupt practices of certain officials. It is noteworthy that Manohar Das has been working in various positions within the Sabroom Subdivisional Agriculture Department for the past 20 years. During the Left regime, he allegedly managed to embezzle funds multiple times and is now accused of continuing these activities under the current administration.
The community is now awaiting the response of the state government and the Honorable Minister of the Agriculture Department. “We hope that the authorities will take swift and appropriate action against those involved in such corrupt practices,” said a concerned local resident.
The incident highlighted the need for stringent measures to ensure transparency and accountability within government departments, particularly those responsible for implementing schemes aimed at improving farmers’ livelihoods.
