Agartala, 22nd May 2025: Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath laid the foundation stone for two significant projects in Udaipur subdivision today aiming to strengthen infrastructure for farmers and traders.

The first stone was laid for the Super Antenna Office of the Agriculture Department at Dhani Sagar’s southwest corner. Present at the event were MLAs Jitendra Majumdar and Abhishek Debroy, Gomati Zilla Parishad’s Saha-Sabhadhipati Sujan Sen and several officials from the department.

Speaking at the event, the minister emphasized that merely establishing offices is not enough, urging officials to stand by farmers in their efforts. “Food is the foundation of life,” he said, adding that its availability precedes basic necessities such as clothing, housing, electricity, and healthcare. The government aims to double the number of farmers by maximizing agricultural land use for cultivating crops like vegetables, paddy, and rice.

Later, the minister laid the foundation stone for an Agrimarket Shed in Udaipur’s Kalaban Bazar. He revealed that since coming to power, the government has invested ₹303.42 crore in market improvements and has now allocated ₹2.20 crore for 18 new stalls and a shed to facilitate trader operations. “The Modi government is committed to farmers,” he stated, promising continued support. He encouraged farmers to utilize vacant land for cultivating pineapple, coconut, jackfruit, mango, ginger, and other produce. Residents and farmers expressed joy over the initiative, hoping it would strengthen local agricultural trade.

Meanwhile, the 33kV Garji substation was inaugurated today bringing relief to the area’s residents who have long suffered from power disruptions.

For years, residents of Garji, Tainani, Dataram and Mayapuri endured frequent outages due to rain and other issues, often leading to problems in agriculture and drinking water supply. To address this, local MLA Abhishek Deb Roy pushed for the substation’s construction.

The event was inaugurated by Power Minister Nath alongside MLAs Abhishek Deb Roy and Jitendra Majumdar, Gomati district’s Zilla Sabhadipati Debal Debroy and Sahasabhadipati Sujan Sen.

“The government is actively addressing public concerns,” said Nath, highlighting the state’s rising per capita income since the administration took charge. He urged residents to opt for legal electricity connections and ensure timely bill payments. The substation is expected to significantly improve power stability in the region.

Local residents welcomed the new facility, hoping for a smoother electricity supply in the coming years.
