AIFB senior leader Dr Brajagopal Roy passes away at 86

Agartala, July 31, 2022: Tripura’s prominent educationist and senior leader of All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) Dr Brajagopal Roy, who was also the former Left Front minister passed away on Sunday morning at the age of 86 years. He was ill for the last one year due to old age ailments. He is survived by his wife, only daughter, other relatives and numerous well-wishers.

A compassionate educationist, Dr Brajgopal Roy was equally aware and concerned about the socio-economic situation of the country and state in addition to teaching. He played a significant role in strengthening the democratic movement of the state, developing the cultural movement of the state. He was the editor of the state mouthpiece ‘Tripura Bani Raspadak’. Apart from this, he has left an impression on the people of the state in the literary world as the author of various important books. He served as the state level leadership of the All India Forward Bloc. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly from 8-Town Bardowali assembly constituency in 1978, he served competently in the cabinet of the first Left Front government and later in 1993 was re-elected from the same constituency and served in the cabinet of the third Left Front government.

In his long political career, Roy played an important role in the overall development of the state and in maintaining unity and mutual understanding among the Left Front partners. In personal life, he was a follower of a simple life style and through his unassuming manners, he made a place in the hearts of the people. With his demise, the people of the state lost a compassionate political leader.

CPIM Tripura state secretariat body and former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar expressed deep grief over the demise of Brajagopal Roy and extended sincere condolences to his bereaved wife, only daughter, family and numerous well-wishers.

Sarkar said “I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing away of Dr Brajagopal Roy. I pay my respects to his memory. I share the grief of his wife, daughter, son-in-law and family members. Condolences to Forward Bloc, Tripura State Committee leadership, party members and well-wishers.”

“As a successful teacher educationist, renowned writer, literary and intellectual, Dr Brajagopal Roy earned a seat of honor and respect in the minds of the people of Tripura. He was respected as a selfless, humble, honest and transparent humanitarian. The death of Dr Roy has not only affected his family, but also the Forward Block as a party. Dr Roy will be remembered in the minds of people of Tripura only through his works and creations”, he added.

AIFB state leadership also deeply mourns the demise of Roy and extends condolences to his bereaved family.Meanwhile, at Civil Secretariat premises on Sunday, last respects were paid to the former minister with due dignity on behalf of state government where ICA minister Sushanta Chowdhury, MLAs Bhanulal Saha, Sudhan Das and Ratan Bhowmik were present. Chowdhury said, “I pray for the eternal peace of the departed soul of Dr Brajagopal Roy, and express my deepest condolences to his bereaved family. May Almighty God give strength to his family to bear this grief at this difficult time. ‘Om Shanti’.”
