Agartala, 9th June 2025:  A four-member delegation from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, concluded a three-day visit to Tripura on Monday to assess the state’s healthcare infrastructure. The team, led by AIIMS Director Prof. (Dr.) M. Srinivas, is expected to submit a detailed report to Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, outlining recommendations for strengthening the state’s medical facilities.

Speaking at a press conference in Agartala, Dr. Srinivas commended the state’s existing health infrastructure and said AIIMS will extend technical guidance and support to enhance services at the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital.

“The Chief Minister has a clear vision for improving healthcare in Tripura,” said Dr. Srinivas. “Our discussions focused on infrastructure development, health education, management of health services, and expansion of super-specialty services at AGMC and GBP Hospitals.”

The AIIMS delegation toured key medical facilities including AGMC, GBP Hospital, Tripura Medical College (TMC), and Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) Hospital. During their visit, they interacted with doctors, healthcare staff, and patients to gain firsthand insights into the system’s strengths and challenges.

Dr. Srinivas added that AIIMS will soon prepare a comprehensive report based on their observations, which will serve as a roadmap for future collaboration. “We will also facilitate training programs to build the capacity of Tripura’s doctors, nurses, and lab technicians,” he said.

Highlighting Tripura’s commendable healthcare indicators, delegation member Dr. Ramesh Agarwal noted, “The state’s infant mortality rate is significantly lower than the national average. Having a doctor as Chief Minister is a major advantage for the healthcare sector.”

Dr. Agarwal assured that AIIMS will provide all necessary assistance to support Tripura’s efforts in improving healthcare delivery. Other delegation members, Dr. Laxmitej Undavalli and Dr. Aruna Kumari, were present at the press conference, along with Tripura’s Director of Health Services Dr. Tapan Majumder, Medical Superintendent of GBP Hospital Dr. Shankar Chakraborty, and AGMC Principal Prof. (Dr.) Anup Saha.
