Agartala, 29th June 2024:   In a vocal display of dissent, the All India Lawyers Union Tripura State Committee on Saturday took to the court premises in Agartala city to protest against three newly introduced criminal laws by the central government. Venturing beyond the confines of the courtroom, lawyers marched through the streets to voice their opposition to these legislative changes.

Speaking on behalf of the protesting lawyers, one advocate remarked, “The central government has enacted three new criminal laws slated to take effect from July 1. These laws are undemocratic and pose significant challenges for the public at large. They are unequivocally unacceptable.”

Highlighting specific concerns, he continued, “Under these laws, the duration of police remand has been extended, and individuals who oppose government decisions may face immediate arrest.” Describing the legislation as perilous, he emphasized its contentious nature, asserting widespread nationwide opposition over an extended period.
