Agartala, 2nd April 2025: Locals in Jharjharia under the Amarpur ICDS Project have raised allegations of corruption in the recent appointment of a helper at Anganwadi Kendra No. 1. The community claims that qualified local candidates were overlooked, leading to widespread agitation and protests in the area.
The protests began this morning with residents locking the Anganwadi Kendra and issuing a warning that it would remain closed indefinitely unless their demands were met. The issue centers around the appointment of Pritilata Shil, an outsider, to the helper position. Residents of Bir Kumar Para allege that the appointment was made dishonestly, accusing Shil of securing the role through monetary influence.
“We demand that the appointment be canceled immediately and a local candidate from Bir Kumar Para be given the position,” said one of the protestors. The community insists that Supriya Chakma, a tribal candidate from the area, is better suited for the role.
In response to the unrest, a meeting was convened by the nominated management committee of Uttar Chelagang ADC Village. After deliberations, the committee resolved to request the cancellation of the current recruitment process and propose the appointment of Supriya Chakma as the helper. The resolution will be submitted to the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) of Amarpur.
Despite these developments, local residents remain resolute. “If immediate action is not taken, the Anganwadi Kendra will stay locked,” a community member warned.
