Agartala, 1st December 2025: Residents of South Bathkhouri have locked the local Anganwadi center in protest, alleging that political influence was used in the recent recruitment of an Anganwadi worker.
According to local sources, after interviews were conducted for the position at the South Bathkhouri Anganwadi center under Surma Assembly, Puja Das, daughter of Prahlad Das, president of the SC Morcha in Surma, was selected for the job. Locals claim that her appointment was secured through political connections.
Meanwhile, Priya Das, wife of a rickshaw driver and a daily wage worker, who appeared for the interview twice, was not selected. She had been assured by local leaders and community members that she would get the job. Angered by the outcome, Priya Das locked the Anganwadi center in protest.
The incident has created a stir in the community, with residents alleging nepotism in a field that is meant to serve society. Priya Das said, “I appeared for the interview twice, and everyone told me I would get the job. But in the end, the leader’s daughter was selected. Do the poor have no rights?”
