Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nirman Das stated that reliable intelligence indicated a large consignment of narcotics was being transported from Udaipur towards Amarpur. Acting swiftly, police devised a plan and intensified surveillance in targeted areas. Under the leadership of Birganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sukramani Debbarma, checkpoints were set up at Thakurchhara Naka Point and Birbal Daspara.

Soon after, police intercepted a suspicious individual whose movements raised concern. The man, identified as Palash Ghosh, a resident of Amarpur subdivision, was detained. A search of his person led to the recovery of 1,440 yaba tablets, which were immediately seized.

Police sources confirmed that Ghosh is being interrogated to uncover details about the wider drug network, including possible accomplices, the origin of the consignment, and its intended distribution points.

A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the accused will be produced before court. Authorities assured that anti-narcotics operations in Amarpur and surrounding areas will be further intensified to curb drug trafficking.
