Agartala, 17th March 2024: Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder is likely to be the candidate of 7 Ramnagar Assembly Constituency.
The call for a by-election to fill the vacant seat in the Ram Nagar assembly constituency of Agartala has prompted the central leadership of the BJP to consider their nominee for the upcoming contest.
The seat remained vacant soon after the demise of sitting MLA of BJP Surajit Datta.
Speaking on the issue, BJP sources said that problems were created among the BJP workers while selecting the candidates for the seat as this seat always remained crucial from where sitting MLA Surajit Datta contested and won.
“A series of meetings were held for the selection of candidate. Many leaders wanted to contest from the seat even some people who asked to give nomination from their family members. Even we have also asked them and some of the denied to contest”, said a source.
He said that this decision stems from his widespread acceptance within both the Ram Nagar and Krishna Nagar regions, coupled with his untainted reputation.
“Mayor Dipak Majumder enjoys a spotless reputation and garners support across all voter demographics. He holds considerable popularity throughout the area.”
He said that it’s anticipated that the party leadership will officially endorse him as their candidate for the by-election. Notably, Majumder shares a close rapport with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who is expected to advocate for his candidacy during discussions with the central leadership”.
The announcement regarding the nomination is anticipated within the next few days, signaling the party’s strategic move in the by-poll arena.
