AMC steps up preparations for Durga Puja, extra manpower to be deployed in wards: Mayor Dipak Majumder

Date:

Agartala, 9th September 2026 :   The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has stepped up preparations for the upcoming Durga Puja and Sharad Utsav, with special emphasis on cleanliness, street lighting, drainage and road repair works across the city.

A special meeting of the AMC was held on Wednesday in the presence of Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder, councillors and senior officials. The meeting reviewed the progress of decisions taken at the previous council meeting and discussed measures to ensure that Agartala remains clean, well-lit and visitor-friendly during the festive season.

Speaking after the meeting, Mayor Dipak Majumder said that additional manpower would be deployed in every ward during the Puja period to strengthen sanitation activities.

“We are increasing manpower in every ward and hiring additional workers for the Puja period so that cleaning can be carried out thoroughly and effectively. Decisions have been taken accordingly,” Majumder said.

He added that repair and renovation works in different wards, along with improvements to street lighting and drainage systems, have been prioritised and directed to be completed within a month.

“Our objective is to ensure that people coming from different parts of the state and outside the state can comfortably enjoy the festivities and move around the city. Funds have been allocated and necessary directions have been issued to expedite the works,” the Mayor said.

Majumder also said that the Sharad Samman, the annual awards for Durga Puja celebrations, is expected to be finalised by October or the first week of November. The Chief Minister’s Cleanliness Award and Sharad Samman will be presented together at a grand ceremony.

Addressing concerns over ongoing road and infrastructure works, the Mayor assured residents that efforts are underway to complete the projects before Durga Puja.

“There is no reason for the residents of Agartala to be concerned. The Smart City Mission, PWD, Urban Development Department, Water Board, TUDA and Agartala Municipal Corporation are working on the ongoing projects across the city and its wards,” he said.

He noted that several projects had been affected by natural calamities and the monsoon, but work has now gained momentum as rainfall has decreased.
