Agartala, 25th November 2025: The ‘Amra Bangali’ party leaders and members staged a four-hour sit-in and protest in Dharmanagar today pressing an eight-point charter of demands aimed at safeguarding the rights and identity of Bengalis in the region.
Leaders of the party alleged that Bengalis across several states are facing systematic discrimination, with constitutional rights being curtailed through laws they described as “anti-Bengali.” They warned of what they termed a “deep conspiracy” to strip Bengalis of citizenship and undermine their cultural heritage.
Speakers at the protest accused successive governments, both at the state and central levels of failing to protect Bengali interests. They cited attempts to impose Hindi over Bengali, the marginalization of Bengali intellectuals including Rabindranath Tagore, and the exclusion of Bengali language provisions in education and public services.
The organization also highlighted alleged displacement of Bengalis in Assam under the pretext of labeling them as “illegal immigrants,” claiming that similar tactics are being used in other states to push Bengalis out of land and livelihood.
Protesters recalled the persecution of Hindu Bengalis who migrated from East Pakistan after Partition, stating that repression intensified under successive regimes. They accused past governments in Tripura of allowing violence, killings, and abductions against Bengalis, while rewarding extremist groups with jobs and financial aid after staged “surrenders.”
The group criticized both Left and BJP governments, alleging that promises of jobs and development remain unfulfilled. They pointed to the loss of 10,323 government jobs, limited new employment opportunities, and the rise of drug abuse in the state, which they said has turned Tripura into a “haven for narcotics.”
The ‘Amra Bangali’ party organization placed eight demands before the government, calling for the immediate formation of a Bengal Regiment, the arrest of drug traffickers to make Tripura a drug-free state, and an end to derogatory remarks and propaganda against Bengali intellectuals. They further demanded the inclusion of Bengali language in competitive examinations, Bengali-language announcements and signboards at all railway stations, and full security with financial assistance for Bengalis attacked by extremists. The organization also urged strict legal action against perpetrators of violence and the protection of Bengali constitutional and political rights.
The sit-in was attended by state secretary Gauranga Rudra Pal, youth and media secretary Dulal Ghosh, and North Tripura district committee secretary Jyotish Debnath, along with other representatives of the organization.
The leaders urged Bengalis to unite beyond party lines, declaring: “A nation without its own party has no strength.” They called for collective action to safeguard the existence and rights of future generations.
