Agartala, 6th March 2026: A high-level bamboo industry advisory workshop was organized at Pragya Bhavan in collaboration with the Tripura Forest Department and the Tripura Dengue Mission, aiming to strengthen the state’s bamboo-based economy and promote sustainable industrial development.
The workshop was inaugurated by Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma, who described the initiative as a significant strategic step toward transforming Tripura’s bamboo sector into a market-oriented and climate-sensitive value chain.
Addressing the participants, the Minister said that the state government is focusing on modernizing the bamboo industry by linking production with markets and promoting sustainable practices. He noted that bamboo, often referred to as “green gold,” has immense potential to support eco-friendly industries and contribute to economic growth in the state.
Debbarma emphasized that the initiative would help strengthen Tripura’s bamboo-based industries while opening up new opportunities for entrepreneurs and artisans. According to him, developing a structured value chain—from cultivation and processing to marketing—will help make the bamboo sector more competitive and resilient.
Highlighting the role of bamboo in tourism, the Minister said that the material has become an important component of Tripura’s tourism infrastructure. Several resorts and tourism facilities built using bamboo have emerged as unique attractions for visitors, showcasing the state’s rich natural resources and traditional craftsmanship.
He further stated that the government has taken steps to boost bamboo cultivation across the state to ensure adequate availability of raw materials for industries. Expanding bamboo plantations, he added, will not only support the growth of local industries but also create new employment opportunities in rural areas.
The workshop brought together officials of the Forest Department, industry experts, and representatives from various organizations associated with bamboo cultivation and processing. During the discussions, participants explored the vast potential of the bamboo sector, strategies for market expansion, and the importance of sustainable development practices.
Experts at the workshop also highlighted the need for technological innovation, skill development, and improved market linkages to enhance the competitiveness of bamboo-based products. They stressed that strengthening the bamboo value chain could significantly contribute to rural livelihoods and environmental conservation.
The advisory workshop concluded with a consensus on promoting bamboo as a key driver of Tripura’s green economy while ensuring sustainable management of forest resources and greater participation of local communities in the sector’s growth.
