Animesh Urges Citizens to Safeguard Nature and Promote Afforestation

Agartala, 5th June 2026:  “People across cities, towns, and villages must actively take responsibility for protecting the environment,” said Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma while conveying his greetings on the occasion of World Environment Day.

World Environment Day was observed across the state in alignment with global celebrations, featuring a series of programmes and awareness drives focused on environmental protection. As part of the observance, the State Pollution Control Board organised a morning rally to raise public awareness about safeguarding nature.

Addressing the gathering, Animesh Debbarma said that the main purpose of the rally was to educate citizens on environmental issues and encourage greater public participation in conservation efforts. He stressed that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility and called on everyone to contribute actively towards preserving natural resources.

He also underlined the importance of afforestation in ensuring a healthier and more sustainable ecosystem.

The programme was attended by Additional Secretary of the Environment Department Chaitanya Murthy, along with other senior officials. A large number of participants, including representatives from NGOs, school students, and environmental workers from different parts of the state, took part in the rally.

The march started from the front of Sukanta Academy and passed through several major roads of the city, spreading messages of environmental awareness among the public.This year’s World Environment Day theme is: “Nature inspires us to act for climate and our future.”
