Agartala, 23rd February 2024: In a startling development preceding the Lok Sabha elections, authorities have confiscated two country-made firearms in the Jayanthi Bazar area under Salema police station of Kamalpur subdivision. The weapons were discovered at the residence of a retired teacher, escalating concerns about potential unrest in the region.
Retired educator Manik Nath’s sons have been taken into custody for interrogation as police delve into the circumstances surrounding the discovery. The incident has sparked curiosity and apprehension among locals.
According to Deepak Das, Officer-in-Charge of Salema police station, the recovery was made following a tip-off on Thursday night. The two firearms were found concealed within a building currently under construction, adjacent to Nath’s residence.
Debashish Nath and Subhashish Nath, the sons of Manik Nath, have been apprehended and are undergoing questioning at the police station. Authorities are actively investigating the case to ascertain the origins and motives behind the concealed weaponry.
