Agartala, 10th July 2025:   Bishalgarh Police Station staff has come under intense public scrutiny after allegations surfaced that police officials accepted Rs 21 lakh bribe to alter the course of a murder investigation. The accused is reportedly an Indian Army soldier named Faruk Mia, was allegedly replaced in the case by another individual to shield him from prosecution.

On June 19, violence erupted in Ghaniamara Chowmuhani under Bishalgarh sub-division during a dispute between two groups. A man named Tofajjal Hussain was seriously injured in the altercation and was being evacuated by Faruk Mia in a vehicle bearing registration number TR07E0682 when, according to eyewitnesses, Faruk allegedly ran over several people. Among those struck was Rezzak Mia, who succumbed to his injuries.

Despite multiple witness testimonies and media presence confirming Faruk as the driver, police officials allegedly submitted a report naming injured Tofajjal Hussain as the vehicle’s operator. The submission, investigators claim came after days of silence and intense negotiation.

Photographic evidence reportedly shows Tofajjal being admitted to the hospital in a critical state on the day of the incident, raising serious doubts over the credibility of the police report.

Sources suggest that the manipulation was staged to protect Faruk’s military employment. The alleged bribe of Rs 21 lakh was reportedly exchanged to secure his exoneration and pin the blame on Tofajjal, who now faces lenient charges and is expected to secure bail easily.

The family of the deceased Rezzak Mia has appealed directly to the Chief Minister demanding a fair investigation and justice. The community has expressed widespread outrage, questioning the integrity of Station House Officer Sanjit Sen and Investigating Officer Prasenjit Debnath, who are at the centre of the controversy.
