Around 8,000 Census personnel begin house-listing preparations across Tripura

Date:

Agartala, 1st August 2026: The groundwork for Census 2027 gained momentum in Tripura on Saturday as nearly 8,000 enumerators and supervisors began the house-listing block (HLB) layout exercise across the state.

Tripura Director of Census Operations Ratan Biswas said the exercise commenced simultaneously across all eight districts and the Agartala Municipal Corporation area. The first phase will continue for four days, during which census personnel will physically visit their assigned areas and prepare detailed maps of the House Listing Blocks.

Explaining the process, Biswas said enumerators have been trained to identify the boundaries of their allotted areas, determine directions, prepare layout maps and subsequently number houses. The exercise will provide officials with an approximate assessment of the number of houses to be covered and the scale of work involved in each block.

There are around 7,500 House Listing Blocks across Tripura, he said.

“This is an important day,” Biswas said, expressing satisfaction over the response from census workers and the preparedness of the state machinery. He said the entire census administration had been working in a coordinated manner to ensure that the exercise progresses smoothly.

The Director further said that after completion of the initial mapping and numbering exercise, census personnel would proceed to the next stage involving direct interaction with households. Information based on 31 questions will be collected and recorded digitally through mobile devices before being uploaded to the designated system.

Biswas also appealed to citizens across the state to extend cooperation to census workers and provide correct and complete information.

He emphasised that public participation would be crucial in ensuring an accurate census and generating reliable information about the state’s population.

Meanwhile, no technical difficulties were reported on the first day. Biswas said dedicated technical support teams were available across the state and would respond promptly if any technical problems emerged during the subsequent stages of the exercise.
