Agartala, June 10, 2023: Asish Kumar Saha, a Congress leader and former MLA, expressed his strong displeasure with the government’s lack of attention towards Netaji Corner in Maharajganj Bazar on Saturday. Saha raised his concerns after witnessing the appalling state of disarray at the corner, highlighting the government’s negligence towards honoring Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. His remarks came during the tree plantation program organized by the Sadar District Congress committee on the occasion of World Environment Day.
During the program, Congress workers and supporters gathered at Netaji Corner to plant trees. However, they were dismayed to find the area in an extremely dirty and unkempt condition. Ashish Kumar Saha criticized the government for superficially promoting Netaji while neglecting his memorial. He drew attention to the dilapidated state of Netaji’s grave statue, which has been left unrepaired for an extended period.
Furthermore, it was disconcerting to observe ongoing electrical transformer installation work behind Netaji’s statue without the knowledge of the Netaji Birth Day Celebration Committee. The government’s lack of coordination raises concerns among the Congress members. They demand the immediate relocation of the transformer. If the government wishes, they can incorporate the corner into the smart city project for its proper development.
Saha emphasized that true development goes beyond mere rhetoric and lies in the efficient utilization of available resources. He criticized the current government’s approach, stating that development should involve responsible and sustainable resource management. As part of their environmental efforts, Congress workers and supporters planted trees in Gandhighat and Khoshbagan areas of Agartala city.
The remarks made by Ashish Kumar Saha shed light on the pressing need for the government to prioritize the restoration of Netaji Corner, paying tribute to the great national leader in a befitting manner.
