Agartala, 12th July 2024:   Alleging widespread violence orchestrated by BJP-backed goons, Pradesh Congress Committee President Asish Kumar Saha met with Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan today, demanding action against the perpetrators. Saha warned that failure to act would lead the Congress to stage a massive protest.

Speaking outside the Tripura Police Headquarters, Saha highlighted that as the nomination process commenced, opposition parties have begun filing nominations and collecting forms.

“Whenever our party workers attend meetings or file nominations, they are attacked by BJP-backed goons. These miscreants, supported by the BJP, are repeatedly targeting Congress workers and candidates. Even during all-party meetings, they face assaults. Vehicles and bikes are being vandalized,” Saha alleged. He cited a recent incident in Dharmanagar where Pradesh Mahila Congress leader Gauri Biswas and her family were attacked, and their house vandalized by BMS leaders.

Saha further claimed that in Bishalgarh, BJP workers attacked and vandalized a Congress party office during its inauguration.  “In many areas, Congress workers’ homes have been set on fire. The police have failed to act. In Bamuita, Kalyanpur, Dukli, Santchand, Tepania, Kalacherra, Salema, and other places, a sense of fear is prevailing. BJP workers are preventing Congress members from filing nominations,” Saha stated. He reported filing a total of 11 FIRs across the state and provided all FIR copies and photographs to the DGP. Saha demanded the arrest of the culprits to ensure free and fair elections, warning that the Congress would otherwise protest in front of the DGP office. “People here are feeling insecure,” he added.
