Agartala, 1st August 2026: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday hailed judoka Asmita Dey’s historic Commonwealth Games gold medal win as a moment of immense pride for the state and congratulated her for bringing laurels to both Tripura and the nation.
Speaking to reporters, Dr. Saha said he came to know about Asmita’s remarkable achievement while returning to Agartala from South Tripura. Recalling his long association with the athlete, he said he had earlier felicitated her for her achievements.
“I have known Asmita Dey for a long time. Her success has made every person in Tripura proud. A girl from Belonia in South Tripura has reached such a height and brought honour to the entire country,” the Chief Minister said.
Dr. Saha described Asmita’s achievement as a source of inspiration for aspiring sportspersons across the state. He said her dedication and hard work would motivate many young athletes to pursue their dreams, just as gymnast Dipa Karmakar had inspired generations of players from Tripura.
Congratulating the judoka on behalf of the state government and the people of Tripura, the Chief Minister said the state has immense sporting potential and talented athletes who can achieve success at national and international levels.
“Asmita’s gold medal is a proud moment for Tripura. Our state has no shortage of sporting talent, and I have always highlighted this on various platforms,” he added.
Dr. Saha further said Asmita’s association with the Uttar Pradesh Police would provide her with better opportunities and exposure to continue her career in sports. However, he maintained that the state government would welcome her contribution if she wished to work for Tripura in the future.
“Asmita is a pride of Tripura. If she wants to come back and serve the state, we will certainly explore the possibilities,” the Chief Minister said.
