Agartala, 6th July 2025:   Panic gripped the Town Pratapgarh area under 9-Banamalipur assembly constituency this afternoon after a sudden attack disrupted a courtyard meeting organized by Congress MLA Gopal Roy. Though the legislator escaped unscathed, the incident triggered chaos leaving attendees scattered and the neighborhood tense.

According to eyewitnesses, a group of unidentified miscreants stormed into the gathering at Road No. 1, hurling objects and instigating panic among party workers and supporters. Police personnel rushed to the scene shortly after receiving reports and deployed additional forces to stabilize the situation.

Speaking to the media personnel here, MLA Roy condemned the attack, labeling it “an attack on democracy.” He asserted, “This was clearly aimed at disrupting public outreach. But let me be clear—we are not going to back down.”

The Congress party issued a strong condemnation, demanding swift action against those involved. “Such brazen attempts to silence democratic expression will not be tolerated,” said a party leader.

Police officials confirmed that an investigation is underway. “We are looking into possible political motives and are working to identify those responsible,” said a senior officer in condition of anonymity. As of now, no arrests have been made.

Tensions remain high in the locality, though authorities claim the situation is under control.
