Agartala, 5th October 2025 : As in previous years, the Sadar subdivision administration has stepped up measures against firecrackers ahead of Lakshmi Puja. On the eve of the festival, markets across Agartala are bustling with sales of fireworks, attracting eager buyers. This year, too, a wide variety of firecrackers have hit the market.
However, keeping noise pollution in mind, the Sadar subdivision administration carried out raids on Sunday across the city’s markets, targeting illegal firecracker sales. Officials conducted inspections at popular marketplaces, including the Lake Chowmuhani area, and seized firecrackers being sold in violation of regulations. An official from the Sadar subdivision administration said, “We are monitoring all markets to ensure compliance with administrative directives and to prevent the sale of prohibited firecrackers.” The effectiveness of these raids remains a key concern. Officials emphasized that isolated checks are not enough; strict enforcement is essential to curb both noise and air pollution, which usually spike during the evening of Lakshmi Puja in Agartala. Authorities have urged citizens to celebrate the festival responsibly, highlighting the need to protect the environment while enjoying the festivities.
