Agartala, 24th September 2024:  In a shocking incident near the residence of MLA Rampada Jamatia, an auto driver and a passenger were assaulted by a group of miscreant youths. This led to a series of road blockades by auto drivers at three locations on the Udaipur-Atharovola road from Tuesday morning. The blockades were set up in front of the Atharovola road police line, Khupilong Hospital Chowmuhani, and Khupilong SPO camp, causing significant disruption.

MLA Rampada Jamatia found himself caught in the blockade. When he attempted to pacify the auto drivers by showing them blood, he was met with intense anger. The auto drivers accused the youths of attacking their colleague near the MLA’s house and expressed frustration over the lack of action against the perpetrators.

The MLA, who arrived at the scene after the blockades began, claimed that the roadblocks were orchestrated by CPIM and Congress supporters aiming to incite conflict. This statement further enraged the auto drivers, who insisted that their protest was solely in response to the assault and not politically motivated. They strongly rejected the MLA’s allegations and refused to lift the blockade.

The situation eventually began to calm down following assurances from the leadership of the auto drivers’ organization.
