Agartala, 1st December 2023: A 51-year-old auto driver, Chinmoy Pal, lost his life in a road mishap at Sonarbasa area on Thursday night. He was a resident of Palpara village and a son of late character Pal Bari. He was also a district committee member of the Indian Auto Rickshaw Mazdoor Sangh, North District.
His death cast a pall of gloom over the Kadamtala-Kurti assembly constituency area, where he was well-known and respected by his fellow auto drivers and the local people. His body was taken to the district hospital for post-mortem and handed over to his relatives on Friday afternoon.
A large number of auto drivers and union leaders paid their last respects to Pal at various places. His body was first brought to the district office of the Rajbari Auto Rickshaw Mazdoor Sangh, Dharmanagar, where District Secretary Rupak Pal led a tribute ceremony. Then, his body was taken to the Nayapara auto stand, where another homage was paid. After that, a rally of auto drivers carried his body to the Kadamtala branch office of the Auto Riska Mazdoor Sangh, where more people joined to bid him farewell. Finally, his body was taken to his home and the last rites were performed.
Hundreds of people gathered outside the Kadamtala branch office to express their condolences and solidarity with Pal’s family. They also demanded justice and compensation for his death. They said that Pal was a hard-working and honest man who always helped others in need. They prayed for his soul to rest in peace.
