Agartala, 30th May 2026: Ahead of the observance of World No Tobacco Day on May 31, around 150 medical students from Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) conducted a door-to-door anti-tobacco awareness campaign in Berimura village under Bamutia Block of West Tripura district on Saturday.
The campaign was organized in line with this year’s theme, “Unmask the Truth Behind the Appeal; Prevent Nicotine and Tobacco Addiction.” The students interacted with villagers, highlighting the harmful effects of tobacco and nicotine consumption and encouraging them to stay away from addiction.
Professor Subrata Baidya of AGMC, along with other faculty members and healthcare workers, participated in the programme. They stressed the importance of public awareness in building a tobacco-free society and urged the younger generation to take an active role in spreading awareness against tobacco use.
World No Tobacco Day has been observed globally since 1987 to educate people about the health risks associated with tobacco consumption and to promote tobacco-control measures.
