Agartala, 25th February 2026:   An awareness meeting and training camp aimed at promoting forest conservation and preventing forest fires was organized by the Jolaibari Kakulia Forest Department. The program saw the participation of forest officials alongside local representatives.

Among those present were Jolaibari Panchayat Samiti Chairman Tapas Dutta, the Panchayat Pradhan and members, Kakulia Range Officer, and other officials. Residents from forest-adjacent villages, volunteers, and members of forest protection committees also joined the initiative.

Speaking at the event, Chairman Tapas Dutta highlighted the rising risk of forest fires during the dry season. He noted that dry leaves and shrubs allow flames to spread rapidly, often causing severe damage. Many incidents, he said, stem from careless acts such as lighting fires in forests, discarding cigarette butts, or burning land for clearing purposes.

The training camp provided detailed guidance on the possible causes of forest fires, immediate response measures, and effective techniques to control fires at an early stage. Forest staff demonstrated the use of basic firefighting equipment and emphasized the importance of promptly informing the department during emergencies.

Dutta further stressed that protecting forests is not solely the responsibility of the department. Active participation from local communities is essential, he said, adding that regular awareness programs will be conducted in villages near forest areas to strengthen conservation efforts.
